Founder and Practice Manager John O’Mahony qualified as a veterinary surgeon way back in 1987. Immediately John took the ferry to the UK to ‘learn the ropes’ and hone his skills in the advanced and busy pet hospitals of Norfolk and Nottingham.
In 1995 after also spending time in Australia, John returned to Cork and bought a very small, part-time veterinary clinic at The Fingerpost Roundabout in Douglas. He set about treating the local pet population with the aid of one nurse, acquiring another three nurses over the following few years along with an increasingly loyal clientele base.
In 1999 the first major renovations took place, doubling the clinic size. In 2008/09 the clinic was further extended and refurbished thereby achieving the highest standard recognised in Ireland. That of Full Hospital Status.
The Animal Care Hospital Vets Douglas is now a fully equipped veterinary hospital containing the most up to date equipment and personnel including four vets, three nurses and one receptionist all dedicated to the highest quality care of all categories of family pets.
As the proud founder of this hospital and manager of this team, John’s aim is to provide the highest quality of pet care in a friendly, caring and professional environment at a reasonable price.
